3D-Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) represent a high investment. This is the reason why they should be in use over many years. Mostly the CMM’s are moving on air bearing, this is why they have practically no wear, opposite to the other machine tools. While in most cases the mechanics of a CMM is as good as new, especially if the CMM was serviced normally, the CNC electronics, along with the hard- and software of the evaluation system became over few years obsolete, due to the rapid pace of the technical development in electronics and computer area.
